Committees

The Council has an extensive committee system which encourages members of the public to join with Councillors in developing policy and monitoring operations. The Committees have terms of reference for consideration by Council. Applications from the public to join committees are called as casual vacancies occur.

Council advisory committees include the Arts & Culture Committee, the Commerce Industry & Tourism Committee, the Public Space Committees (Muswellbrook and Denman), Muswellbrook Shire Community Planning Committee, the Environment Committee, Sport & Recreation Committees (Muswellbrook and Denman), Senior Citizens & Aged Care Committee, various coal consultative committees and sunset (special activity) committees structured from time to time. Details are provided on the following list.

Public participation at committee meetings

The Council has a public participation section at the beginning of most committee meetings.

Any resident has an opportunity to address a committee in accordance with the PDF documentCode of Meeting Practice (712 kb). Prior arrangements should be made with the appropriate council officer.

Details of council committees

Each year in September, Council establishes the committees and elected Councillors to serve on committees.
