Roles and responsibilities
The Director of Environmental Services is the head of the Environmental Services Department.
The department is responsible for development control and environmental assessment, heritage matters, health surveillance, companion animals and emergency services.
Principal activities
Environment and heritage
The Environmental Assessment program includes audit compliance, contaminated sites, extractive industries and coal mining assessment, pollution, heritage assessment and land and river care.
The Environment and Heritage Approvals and planning program includes development approvals and control, local approvals policy and control, certificates and licences.
The health and regulations program
Includes health surveillance, complaints, regulations, health education and animal control.
Emergency services
The emergency services program includes bushfire management, state emergency services and emergency planning.
