International applicants
Council often receives applications from candidates outside Australia. As per the Department of Immigration & Citizenship requirements it is illegal for Council to employ anyone without the Right to Work in Australia.
The onus is on the applicant to demonstrate Proof of Right to Work in Australia. At interview stage Muswellbrook Shire Council will ask to sight:
- Australian Birth Certificate
- Australian Citizenship Certificate
- Australian Passport
- Valid Visa with permission to work in Australia
- Job Network Job Seeker Identification Number

Muswellbrook Shire Council is not opposed to sponsoring suitable candidates for positions that have a skills
shortage. In all other cases if a preferred candidate cannot demonstrate Proof of Right to Work in Australia
they will not be offered employment.
Muswellbrook Shire Council has employed a Health & Building Surveyor from the United Kingdom and a Water & Waste Operations Engineer from South Africa both initially sponsored under a Temporary Business Visa and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Visa.
