On-site Sewage Management fees and charges explained

The On-site Sewage Management Approval to Operate Fee was set in Financial Year 2009/10 at $260. This fee has not been increased for 2010/11. The fee includes the issue of an ‘Approval to Operate’ licence following an inspection.

There is a 50% discount for any additional systems on a property as long as these are all inspected at the same time.

From August 2010 the fee of $260 will be split into five annual payments. The first payment of $60 is due in 2010/11. Further annual fees of $50 will be due in each of the following four years. You will receive an invoice in July/August each year. The fee will be charged from 2010 however the renewal of your Approval to Operate may not be due at that time. Any one who has paid the full fee before August 2010 will not be charged annual fees for the period of this current Approval to Operate. When a property is sold, the new owner will be responsible for the payment of the ongoing annual fee.

Council does not wish to place a financial burden on affected residents and therefore an offset of $50 was made to the Rates for Farmland and Non-Urban Residential rating categories. This offset has been incorporated into the Base Rate and Ad Valorum rate which is the rate charged on the land value of your property.

The fees have been set to ensure that the costs to Council to undertake inspections and administration of the licencing system are covered. The offset means that for many users there will be only a small net cost incurred by owners.

Other fees relating to On-site Sewage Management are included in the Schedule of Fees and Charges put on Public Exhibition each May.
