2011 Domestic Bulky Waste Pickup a success
Muswellbrook Shire Council completed a very successful domestic bulky waste pickup, with almost three times the amount of material collected than in prior years – 63 tonnes of scrap metal and 93 tonnes of mixed waste in 9 working days.
Council and contractors work hard to streamline the collection process
In past years the collection has taken up to three and a half weeks to complete, because trucks have had to back track in order to pick up waste deposited after the first run. This year council staff closely monitored the collection process and prevented this occurring, allowing for the efficient and effective use of the four staff and two trucks from the contractors. The contractor staff also worked hard to ensure that the pickup was completed in a reasonable time frame.
Council urges residents to dispose of their e-waste thoughtfully
There was a considerable amount of e-waste collected which could have been dropped off at the Waste Management Facility, and some of the deposited piles were not sorted into metal and other waste, but overall the community has responded very well to the extended advertising campaign.

Future plans for bulky waste
Council will be investigating options for future management of bulky waste, including voucher distribution, continuation of the current collection system, and more frequent collections.
