Recycling initiatives at Muswellbrook waste management facility
Green waste
Green waste is made up of kerbside collected and 'drop-off' garden organic material, it is milled and sold as mulch at the depot.
It is important that no contaminants are placed in the green waste bins (or delivered to the depot by other means), as there is potential to damage expensive machinery, and contaminated waste will have to be rejected as onsaleable mulch and will end up as landfill.
Scrap metal
Scrap metal, including batteries, are collected, stored and sold to metal merchants.
Salvage useful items
Hoarder’s Haven was established as a service to the community, and allows useful items to be sold at cheap prices. Items such as wardrobes, tables, chairs, bicycles, prints, antique radiograms and golf clubs have been recycled and sold.
Untreated timber
We chip a small quantity of untreated timber for sale as garden chip mulch.
Recyclable material from kerbside collections
A Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), managed by JR Richards, is located at the depot. Steel cans, aluminium and paper products are baled and sent to major recyclers. All contaminants from this process go to the void as mixed waste.![]()
