Services to Sport Award
Kevin is being recognised for his contribution to sports within the field of Football which includes:
- Being President of the Muswellbrook Football Club over the past several years.
- Taking on the majority of the Club’s workload.
Barbara is being recognised for her contribution to services of sports within the field of Equestrian Sports which include:
- Being involved in the Denman Pony Club for over 35 years.
- Being Secretary of the Club for 33 years consecutively (1975-2005), only relinquishing the position recently.
- Attending events and often assisting with office duties.
- Being Zone 7 Pony Club Treasurer from around 2000 to current.
- Being Zone 7 Pony Club Secretary from 2009 to current.
- Planting trees at the Denman Pony Club grounds and caring for them until established
- Joining Merriwa Pony Club in 1949 as the first Pony Club in the state.
- Riding at Sydney Royal Show in 1951, a feat followed by her own children and grandchildren.
Neil is being recognised for his contribution to services of sports within Denman Rugby League which includes:
- More than 50 years continuous service to Rugby League in Denman.
- Being the Denman Junior Rugby League Secretary, Coach and Referee from 1962-63.
- Being the Denman Junior Rugby League Treasurer, Coach and Referee from 1964-82.
- Awarded Life Membership to Denman Junior Rugby League in 1974.
- Being President of Denman Rugby League from 1983-97.
- Member of the Group 21 General Committee from 1983-97.
- Being Denman Rugby League Major Sponsor from 1987-94.
- Being Group 21 Player of the Year Sponsor and Joint Sponsor of Best Young Talent from 1987-94.
- Awarded Life Membership of Group 21 in 1995.
- Being timekeper and ground announcer for Denman Rugby League from 1998-2009.
- Awarded the Australian Sports Medal for Services to Rugby League in 2000.
- Awarded AAMI Volunteer of the Week on 2GB Continuous Call in 2008.
- Refereeing as many as 8 games on a day.
- Regained Coaching Accreditation and became the Coach of the Denman U’6s in 2009.
Anthony is being recognised for his contribution to services of sports within Denman Cricket and Rugby league which includes:
- Being Club Secretary and Publicity Officer.
- Being Club Delegate for Muswellbrook District Association Meetings.
- Organising two of the three Denman team each week.
- Participating and playing each week.
- Helping to organise the new Seven a side competition in Denman this year.
- Helping to raise funds for the club by selling raffle tickets through out the year.
- Coaching for the last four years (5-8 year olds).
- Being an accredited league safe for the games.
- Preparing and packing up for home and away games.
- Being a member of winning Club championship team of Men’s fours.
- Being a member of men’s Pennants team.
The Learn to Swim Free Campaign is being nominated for their contribution to volunteer services which includes:
- Providing in excess of 56 years of service to the children of Muswellbrook Shire and the Upper Hunter;
- Providing basic but essential swimming skills to children 5 years and above;
- Teaching 80 children in the past year alone;
- 30 volunteer instructors providing many thousands of hours to the service;
Ken is being nominated for his contribution to sport in Denman which includes:
- Being an active member of the Denman Little Athletics Club for four years.
- Being a life member of the Denman Rugby League Club.
- Playing rugby league for Denman and coaching Junior Rugby League.
- Being an active member of the Denman Golf Club, holding position of Secretary for eight years.
- Organising Junior Golf Development Coaching Clinics.
- Being the Golf Club representative on the Sports Council.
Allan is being nominated for his contribution to the sport of Cricket, Rugby League and Touch Football which includes:
- Captaining Denman’s Cricket Team to the Muswellbrook District 2004-05 title which was Denman’s first top-grade title in 19 years;
- Being a Committee representative for the Denman Cricket Club;
- Holding the position of President of the Denman Rugby League Football Club for the past two years;
- Being a Member of the reserve grade side for Denman.
Jim Huggins is being nominated for his contribution to the sport of Athletics including:
- Coaching Athletics in track and field events since 1965
- Coaching Basketball for local and inter town competitions
- Providing transport for sporting participants to matches and events
- For many years coordinated the Muswellbrook Amateur Athletics Club
