Sportsperson of the Year
The Sporting awards are awarded to individuals/teams who have shown to have a significant contribution to the sporting nature of Muswellbrook Shire.
Trent is being nominated for his achievements in the field of Tae Kwon Do which include:
- Winning the Gold Medal for Junior Male (Hyperweight) Blackbelts in Sparring at the European Open Cup held in Slovakia.
- Winning Best Overall Male Competitor at the Australian National Championships.
- Being invited to represent Australia (for the third time) at the next World Championships.
- Travelling to New Zealand to attend one of the largest training camps in Australasia region.
- Travelling to Germany after an invitation to train with members of the German National Team.
- Winning the Gold Medal for the Open Blackbelt Sparring in Queensland.
- Winning the Gold Medals for Special Techniques, Junior Blackbelt Patterns and Junior Blackbelt (Hyperweight) Sparring at the Australian National Championships in Tasmania.
- Winning Overall Champion at the Australian National Championships in Tasmania.
- Winning the Gold Medal for Open Round Robin Sparring and Open Blackbelt (Hyperweight) Sparring at the Brisbane Bai Rui National Championships.
Shane is being recognised for his achievements in the field of Softball which includes:
- Being a dedicated and committed sportsperson travelling to Newcastle and Sydney.
- Being a member of the 2008 International Softball Federation World Championship U/19s Men’s Gold Medallist in Whitehorse, Canada.
- Achieving Best Pitcher Award in Kokanee Classic Tournament in Vancouver Island, Canada.
- Currently plays Strikers 1st grade in Newcastle.
- Being selected for the NSW Under 19s Men’s Squad, Aussie Colts.
- Being selected for the NSW Under 19s for 2007 Nationals in Queensland.
- Achieving the 2008 Newcastle Commonwealth Sports Achievement Award
- Achieving the Newcastle and District Softball Association Junior Achievement Award.
- Being selected for the 2008 NSW U/19s Men’ Nationals in Queensland.
- Being selected for the 2008 Australian U/19s Men’s Team, Aussie Colts.
Jordana is being nominated for her achievements in the field of Golf which includes:
- Being Ladies Club Champion (A Grade) in 2007;
- Being selected in 2006/2007 NSW Junior Girls State Squad;
- Being selected for 2007/2008 Junior State Golf Team;
- Winning Belmont Junior Classic;
- Winning South West Rocks Junior Masters 14 Years;
- Winning Jack Newton Junior State Age Championship 14 Years;
- Winning NSW Junior Girls Amateur Championship;
- Being selected to play in the Australian Junior Girls Amateur Championship in January, 2008.
Mike is being nominated for his achievements in the field of hockey which includes:
- Gaining selection in the Australian Mens Vets U60’s side in 2006 to play in Germany.
- Being selected to represent Australia in South Africa in March/April 2007.
- Representing NSW Hockey Mens Vets teams over the last five years
- Playing in the Denman Mens Hockey Club.
- Umpiring in the Upper Hunter hockey competition.
- Being a life member of the Denman Swimming Club.
Margaret is being nominated for her achievements in the field of Athletics, Swimming and Physical Culture which includes:
- Being a member of the Muswellbrook Amateur Athletics Club from 1999 to 2005;
- Breaking eight club records at Muswellbrook Amateur Athletics in 2004/2005;
- Winning the 45 years Female Pointscorer, Club Championship, Most Improved Senior and Best Performance at Championship for Athletics;
- Being named Athlete of Intertown series for Amateur Athletics;
- Competing in Country Championships at Mingara and winning 3 silver and 3 bronze medals;
- Being a member of the Muswellbrook Amateur Swimming Club in 1995 to 2000 and 2002 to 2005;
- Being awarded 17 and Over Championship Trophy in 2003 and 2005;
- Being a member of Muswellbrook Physical Culture from 1997 to 2005;
- Being presented with the Club Person of the Year Trophy;
- Reaching the finals for At Zone Championships for Physical Culture
- Competing in Athletics at the Trans Tasman Master Games and won 3 silver medals and 4 bronze.
