About Us
The Shire of Muswellbrook is the centre of a region commonly referred to as the Upper Hunter and is appropriately 130km from Newcastle and 285krn from Sydney. The current population, is 15,352*.
There is one major town in the shire, Muswellbrook, with a population of approximately 10,500 people and a smaller town, Denman, with approximately 1,500 people. A number of other smaller villages make up the balance of the shire's population. Muswellbrook sits on the Hunter River with the New England Highway, to Sydney and/or Brisbane, running through the heart of town. Denman is on the Hunter and Goulburn Rivers with the Golden Highway running through it to Dubbo and or Newcastle.
