Power and Energy


There are two power stations in the Muswellbrook Shire, Bayswater and Liddell, owned and operated by Macquarie Generation who have the capacity to produce up to 40% of New South Wales electricity demand. These two stations employ 571 people and were commissioned in mid 1980's and 1973 respectively. In 1996. the two stations were corporatised under the Macquarie Generation banner with its head office in Newcastle. Since corporatisation, the efficiencies and safety record has reached a standard that would be accepted anywhere in the world.

Macquarie Generation own approximately 9000 hectares in the vicinity of the power stations and in the last few years there has been a push to relocate large electricity users to the industrial zone. This strategy reflects the professionalism of the Organisation. 

The uniqueness for businesses and industry in this area Is highlighted by Macquarie Generation who have created an Industrial Zone. This provides start up companies or companies relocating, using electricity as one of their major inputs, the opportunity to access an area that provides all that they need in one simple package.
