Upper Hunter
Conservatorium of Music
OUR CONSERVATORIUM Established in 1997, Upper Hunter
Conservatorium is the newest member of the network of 13 regional
conservatoriums which set out to provide musical education and performance of a
high and consistent standard in country centres throughout New South Wales. Our large collection of instruments is a source of great pride
as this places the study of an instrument within the financial reach of rural
families and students of small schools. Our strengths are the quality of our teachers, our cooperative
arrangements with schools and our productive relationships with students,
parents and the musical and wider community of our region. Our Management
Committee is made up of representatives of local business, educational and
community interests. At our conservatorium, we believe that a community's whole
quality of life is enriched and enhanced through learning, playing, listening
to, and appreciating music in it's different best in community and
schools-based musical education and performance by individuals and musical
groups. Our teaching is based on the conviction that a sound musical education
included private tuition from a qualified, experienced teacher, class
instruction in the essentials of music and aural training, and ensemble
performance. Already teaching more than 500 students in Muswellbrook, Scone,
Merriwa and Denman, we plan to extend to other towns. We are recognised as a
valuable community resource, providing comprehensive early childhood music
programs, music education in regional schools, and a community-based music
school. WHAT WE DO We have an office at The Convent in
Brook Street Muswellbrook, but teach in various
locations, mainly in schools, when we give lessons to school students during
school time and to the wider community outside those hours. Our students range in age from under
3 to over 60, although
most are primary school age. We are looking forward to seeing how far we can
take them, where they go and what they do. Some of our older students are
beginners getting enormous enjoyment as they learn to play piano and violin. We provide expert tuition in early childhood music,
voice, piano, guitar, and most orchestral instruments, including
strings, flute, clarinet, saxophone and brass.
We also conduct workshops, ensembles including mini
strings, junior and senior voice ensembles.
Our Artistic Director is Alison
Murphy.
