Emeritus Mayor John Colvin AM, RFD, ED was welcomed at Council’s Administration Centre, Campbells Corner recently where he was presented with a Certificate of Acknowledgement of his emeritus status, ongoing recognition to those who have served as Mayor, from Local Government NSW by current Mayor Steve Reynolds.

Following a distinguished military and teaching career, Mr Colvin was elected to Muswellbrook Shire Council in 1991, spent seven years as Deputy Mayor and served as Mayor from 1999 to 2008. He is well known for his efforts in establishing the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music and the Mining Industry Skills Centre, his work with the 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers, Legacy, the Parish of the Anglican Church and as Chair of the First World War Centenary Events Working Party.

Mr Colvin was awarded the Freedom of the Entry to the Shire, the most distinguished honour available to Council for presentation to a member of the community in 2016.
