The NSW Government is funding this essential maintenance work on Denman Bridge over the Hunter River to ensure its continued safe operation.
Roads and Maritime Services will carry out the work, which includes repairing damaged steel elements of the bridge.
We will be working between 6pm and 6am on Saturday 9 and Saturday 23 February and expect to complete the work in two nights, weather permitting. We will let you know in advance if we need to do any work outside these times.
Bridge closures and traffic changes
There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe.
In the lead up to these bridge closures there will be some lane closures in place at night. There will also be lane closures in place during the day on Saturday 9 and Saturday 23 February.
Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs. For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
During the full bridge closure detours will be in place as shown in the map provided.
The northern detour is expected to add up to 50 kilometres to journeys, which is about 35 minutes travel time. The southern detour is expected to add up to 40 kilometres to journeys, which is about 30 minutes travel time.
Restricted access heavy vehicles are NOT permitted to use these detours. Drivers of restricted access heavy vehicles should refer to the link below to determine appropriate alternative routes: https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/business-industry/heavy-vehicles/maps/restricted-access-vehicles-map/index.html
One alternative route is to follow Denman Road to the New England Highway at Muswellbrook, follow the New England Highway to Scone, turn onto Liverpool Street and head back to the Golden Highway at Merriwa via Saturn Road, Bunnan Road and Scone Road. This alternative route would add up to 200 kilometres to the journey, which is about three hours travel time.
It is recommended that drivers of restricted access heavy vehicles plan their trip well in advance to avoid lengthy detours.

How will the work affect you?
The work will involve the use of machinery which generates some noise. We will make every effort to minimise noise by turning off machinery and vehicles when not in use.
