Start of work - Traffic lights at the New England Highway and Lorne Street intersection, Muswellbrook from 25 May for 8 weeks
The NSW Government is funding a $950,000 project at the intersection to improve pedestrian safety.
Transport for NSW will carry out the work, which involves installing traffic lights with pedestrian crossings on each leg of the intersection. New footpath and kerb ramps will be installed to connect to the existing footpath. This will provide safer and easier access for pedestrians across the highway and Lorne Street.
Work will also involve resurfacing the intersection and renewing line marking. The upgraded intersection will include separated left turning lanes into Lorne Street for both directions. This will involve the removal of some parking on each side of the highway.
We have included a diagram to help explain the project.
We will be working between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. Some work will also be carried out between 7pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday.
We expect to complete the work in eight weeks, weather permitting.
How will the work affect you?
The work will involve the use of machinery which generates some noise. We will make every effort to minimise noise by turning off machinery and vehicles when not in use.
There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe.
Lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours and may affect travel times.
Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs. For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
