Public Exhibition of the Draft Modern Slavery Policy

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council held at Muswellbrook on 27 May 2025, Council endorsed the Draft Modern Slavery Policy – MSC076E, for 28 days of public exhibition via Council’s website, from 29 May 2025 to 26 June 2025.

The Draft Modern Slavery Policy is a new policy that serves as a framework for identifying, preventing, mitigating, and remediating Modern Slavery risks, while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

During a recent review of the Procurement Policy, it was decided to remove the Modern Slavery section from the Procurement Policy to be a standalone policy – the Draft Modern Slavery Policy (the Policy). This amendment was based on the requirements by the Anti-slavery Commissioner (NSW) regarding the specificity of the Modern Slavery Policy, as outlined in the ‘Guidance on Reasonable Steps’.

The purpose of the Policy is to outline Muswellbrook Shire Council’s commitment to addressing Modern Slavery risks in its operations and supply chains and complying with its legislative obligations.

By resolution of Council, if no submissions are received during the exhibition period, the Policy will be adopted on 27 June 2025.
