The NSW Government has developed a dedicated air quality website that presents air quality data and information that is fit-for-purpose, easy-to-understand and works well on desktop and mobile devices.

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment’s website presents live data from various air quality monitoring stations around the state. The stations monitor particles in air that could include things like dust or sea salt, as well as smaller particles generated from combustion processes such as vegetation fires, motor vehicles and industrial sources. These small particles can get deep into the lungs and be absorbed into the blood stream. Short term impacts include difficulty in breathing and worsening of asthma or chronic bronchitis symptoms. They can also cause irritation of eyes, nose and throat.

The air quality website is a key deliverable for the NSW Government’s Air Program under the Enhancing air quality website and data delivery service project. The website is designed to ensure that all NSW Government air quality data and information is more freely available and easily accessible by the community, researchers and decision makers.
