Member for Upper Hunter, Dave Layzell, an admirer of the late Max Watters OAM, took the opportunity last month to share with his Parliamentary colleagues the details of Muswellbrook Shire Council’s commissioning of a sculpture of the home-grown artist.
In congratulating Council on the commission, unveiled at the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre on 20 October 2021, Mr Layzell said:
Dave Layzell“The sculpture of Max Watters commemorates his dedication to the town, region and lifelong passion. Max Watters began painting in the 1950s and his work is represented in every major collection in Australia. Mr Watters donated his own significant art collection to the Muswellbrook Shire so that residents and visitors alike could enjoy and appreciate his artistic vision. I congratulate Linda Klarfield of Klarfeld Bronzes on her magnificent depiction of Max sitting on a sandstone plinth, which now has pride of place in the courtyard outside the gallery for all to admire. A wonderful tribute by the Muswellbrook Shire to one of its talented sons.”
