Muswellbrook is seeking seven fresh trainees and apprentices to work for Council, through a program that launches careers in every calling from books to bricks and mortar.
Muswellbrook is partnering with the NSW Government’s Fresh Start program to recruit into the Council team:
- Apprentice Civil Construction
- Trainee Finance Officer
- Trainee ICT Support Officer
- Trainee Natural Areas
- Trainee Technical Officer – Roads & Drainage
- Trainee Administration Officer
The $252 million initiative is creating 1,300 new positions across NSW councils, with more than 1,000 already approved.
For trainees and apprentices starting with Muswellbrook Shire Council, each position is a pathway to a secure, meaningful job working for the community, with on-the-job experience, a highly regarded qualification, and a valued place in a supportive team environment.
Will Harris, a Trainee Library Branch Officer who joined Muswellbrook Shire Council through Fresh Start, says the program opened a door to a role that feels like more than a job.
“Thanks to this traineeship, I’ve been able to begin a new career path that lets me give back to the community while doing something I’m passionate about,” Mr Harris said.
Muswellbrook Mayor Jeff Drayton said Council gains as much from its Fresh Start trainees and employees as they do by landing a job.
“Fresh Start helps us grow our workforce, our community, and provides young people with the kind of solid, hands-on opportunities that set them up for life,” Mayor Drayton said.
“Whether it’s maintaining our parks, helping to run a library or building our local infrastructure, these recruits are learning while contributing to the Muswellbrook community – we’re richer for having them work for us.”
