Muswellbrook Shire Council will begin demolition works on Bridge Street for the next phase of the transformational Muswellbrook Town Centre Revitalisation.

The improvements will deliver better parking and a vibrant community green space, Possum Park, with Council, federal and state funding and strong community support.

Demolition works will begin following a site handover on June 25, with completion of Possum Park expected in early 2026.

For the upcoming construction phase and long-term usability, the Brook Street entry to Muswellbrook Town Centre Car Park, behind the library and TEC1, will be temporarily closed to vehicles and made pedestrian-only access.

Vehicle entry to and exit from the car park will be redirected to Hill Street and updated signage and traffic management will be in place throughout the works.

Muswellbrook Mayor Jeff Drayton said the demolition works are an exciting step in the town centre revitalisation which will mean temporary changes that ultimately lead to a better Muswellbrook.

“These improvements are all about a safer, greener, more accessible town centre that reflects the future of Muswellbrook and the lifestyle we want to deliver for our community,” Mayor Drayton said.

“Council has worked hard to balance some badly-needed renewal with retaining the unique character of Muswellbrook.”

A painstaking demolition will be carried out with specialist tools, overseen by a qualified site engineer, to minimise disruption and safeguard surrounding infrastructure including Possum Gully stormwater channels.

The value of the Muswellbrook Town Centre upgrades is estimated at $14.4 million,  funded by Muswellbrook Shire Council, the Australian and NSW governments.

The funding breakdown is as follows:

Following Council procurement, a local contractor has been appointed through a competitive tender process in line with state requirements. The demolition and construction tender was finalised in May and a program of work will be carried out over the rest of the year.
