NAIDOC Week has begun in Muswellbrook Shire with multiple events to appreciate the Culture, history and achievements of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with everything from career opportunities to family fun.
The free Wanaruah NAIDOC Family Fun Day returns from 10am to 2pm Sunday July 13 in Victoria Park, Muswellbrook.
The park will come alive with a smoking ceremony, traditional dance and food, weaving, food vans, markets, rides, face painting, and the opportunity to sing along to “Koorioke”.
Earlier in the week, from 10am to 2.30pm Wednesday July 9, Muswellbrook Library will host First Nations Employment Connect.
It’s an opportunity for Indigenous job seekers to engage with local employers across sectors including mining, construction, hospitality and Defence.
Employment Connect is free to attend with lunch provided, and registration is at: events.humanitix.com/first-nations-employment-connect
The range of Muswellbrook Shire Council supported NAIDOC Week events all align with this year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
Muswellbrook Mayor Jeff Drayton said NAIDOC Week is important for everyone.
“NAIDOC Week is a time to get together, listen, learn and enjoy. Every event supported by Council is about who we want to be as a Muswellbrook community - respectful, real and proud,” Mayor Drayton said.
