The Prime Minister of Australia the Honourable Anthony Albanese officially opened the Donald Horne Building in Muswellbrook this morning – with the assistance of a robotic arm.
The $6.5M forward-looking building reflects Muswellbrook Shire Council’s investment in the future and is a key part of the redevelopment of the town centre.
Shire Mayor Steve Reynolds said Council was honoured to have Mr Albanese visit Muswellbrook for the important event.
Mayor Steve Reynolds“Now that the building is open, I know that it will inspire innovation and position Muswellbrook as a centre for clean technologies, modern manufacturing and leading the charge on renewable energy production as we move towards a net zero economy.
“Council is investing in the future by actively identifying and progressing opportunities to build economic resilience and create jobs. We are making a significant investment in projects and initiatives which will inspire future generations, prepare business for new opportunities and leverage our lifestyle advantages.
“With the official opening of the building, the final piece of the Hunter Innovation Precinct puzzle, which includes the University of Newcastle Upper Hunter Campus, TAFE, the Muswellbrook Library and the visitor information centre, has fallen into place.
Mayor Steve Reynolds“This precinct is the first step of a significant upgrade of the town centre, planning of which is well underway, and we are very thankful to the Federal Government for a $10.5M contribution to the redevelopment project.
“As a community we are preparing for a bolder, brighter future and we a proud to work with both State and Federal Governments to achieve this. To this end we are grateful that the Prime Minister of Australia acknowledged the importance of this region with his attendance today,” Mayor Reynolds concluded.
The Donald Horne Building was made possible through funding from Regional NSW’s Resources for Regions program and industry partners BHP, MACH Energy, Mangoola and Bengalla.
