Project nearing completion – Mayor says: “watch this space”

Despite the impact of Covid and several extreme weather events, progress continues apace at the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre. Construction works are nearing completion – project managers estimate that more than 75% of the built works are completed with finishing, commissioning and landscaping to be done.

Features of the major upgrade of the centre include the refurbishment of the existing 50m outdoor pool and the construction of an indoor facility for all ages including a heated 25m pool, “splash zone” play area, heated learn to swim/therapy pool, spa and sauna, new entrance and foyer, cafe, party room and viewing deck.

Council was successful in grant funding applications to support the redevelopment with $1 million granted towards the water play area from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities fund and $700,000 towards the learn to swim/warm water pool from the Ridgelands Community Fund.

“The opening is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to this fantastic new facility soon. Stay tuned for more information in the comings weeks on how you can join us at the grand opening event.”

Steve Reynolds, Mayor.

Project Update 11/05/2022

Muswellbrook Aquatic & Fitness Centre will be closed to the public on Thursday 12 May and Friday 13 May to facilitate power connection works for the indoor upgrades.

The electrical subcontractor carrying out power connection works will drop the overhead services and cut over from the existing switchboard to a generator. The planned switch over works will expedite and enable commissioning and testing, and will also allow for hydrant tank installation works and permanent power works to be carried out in parallel to meet the project completion date.

The outdoor pool and gym will be closed temporarily while the work takes place.

Thank you to all patrons for your patience and understanding.

Project Update 7/07/2022

Unfortunately, the extreme wet weather and flooding this week has resulted in the postponement of the opening of the Aquatic Centre. The Centre will open to the community as soon as practicable with free entry for two weeks from opening. The “official” opening will be rescheduled with date to be advised.

Project Update 12/07/2022

The Aquatic Centre indoor pool hall remains closed until further notice – not expected to be any longer than two weeks – due to further construction works being requested by the hydraulic engineer and a delay in the final sign off by the external certifier, who has been delayed due to flooding.

Project Update 18/08/2022

The Aquatic Centre indoor pool will open tomorrow, Friday 19 August 2022. Read the full news story here.
