About the Project

Muswellbrook Shire Council will be undertaking work to renew and strengthen the road pavement on Victoria Street (between Carl Street and Dolahenty Street) and in the carpark at Muswellbrook Railway Station. The work will involve removing failing existing pavement material and replacing it with asphalt.

We are excited to share that this road renewal will be undertaken using a road surfacing material containing high recycled content derived from waste streams that would otherwise be bound for landfill.  The asphalt used will contain ingredients such as soft plastics from plastic bags and packaging, waste glass, waste printer cartridges and crumb rubber from old tyres. All products used in the mix are given approval by NSW EPA, and it is estimated that the project will divert from landfill:

  • 261 thousand plastic bags
  • 7.6 thousand printer cartridges
  • 88 tonnes recycled asphalt
  • 40 thousand glass bottles

Project Update 13/12/2023

The work is programmed for night works commencing after 6pm during the following period, weather permitting:

  • Heavy Patching Railway Interchange Carpark – Wednesday 13 December and Thursday 14 December 2023
  • Victoria Street (Carl Street to Dolahenty Street) – Thursday 14 December, Friday 15 December, Sunday 17 December and Monday 18 December 2023

There will be no driveway access off Victoria Street during work hours, except for emergency access.

Project Update 15/01/2024

The Fixing Local Roads Project to strengthen the road pavement on the high and wide vehicle bypass route through Muswellbrook continued this week, with the final asphalt wearing surface being laid. The project will be completed when the line marking has been reinstated, which is programmed for February.

Council thanks the adjacent residents and businesses for their cooperation during this project. The work crews really appreciated that no vehicles were parked on the road at the work site during the hours of work as requested, and this cooperation helped to make the works run smoothly and in a timely manner.
