Muswellbrook Shire Council has received $60,000 for street lighting from the NSW Government.
The grant, from the Traffic Route Lighting Subsidy Scheme, will help Council to install and maintain street lighting to improve road conditions for motorists at night.
Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell said the grants under the Subsidy Scheme would help to provide improved and more reliable lighting on many roads.
“Better visibility is vital for the safety of all road users including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians,” Mr Layzell said.
Council’s Acting General Manager Derek Finnigan said the scheme was invaluable as it compensates councils for operational costs associated with street lighting.
“This grant from the Traffic Route Lighting Subsidy Scheme will help Council cover capital costs for new and improved and more reliable street lighting, maintenance work, network distribution, and energy consumption costs,” he said.
