Thanks to the NSW Government’s Female Friendly Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Program, women and girls across the Shire will soon have access to safer and more inclusive sporting facilities.
A grant of $492k from the program for lighting upgrades at Weeraman Fields and $447K for upgrades at Highbrook Park supports the State Government’s commitment to ensuring the region has a network of facilities to enable quality sport and active recreation at all levels.
Muswellbrook Shire Mayor Steve Reynolds said that one of the barriers faced by women and girls wanting to play sport was a lack of suitable amenities, including adequate lighting.
“By upgrading our existing facilities, which have predominantly been used by men in the past, we will to be able to safely cater to the growing number of female sports team.
Muswellbrook Shire Mayor Steve Reynolds“Council’s strategy for its community infrastructure includes improving sporting facilities for women and girls to help boost female participation in sport,” he said.
