Swimming Pool Registration
If you are building or installing a pool, you must register your swimming pool on the NSW Swimming Pool Register. Alternatively, you can pay a $10 fee to Council and we will register it on your behalf.
In-ground pools, spas and portable swimming pools of any kind must also comply with the Swimming Pools Act 1992 and various safety requirements.
Swimming Pool Barriers and Inspections
The Swimming Pools Act 1992 requires private swimming pool owners to ensure their pool is at all times surrounded by a child-resistant barrier that separates the swimming pool from the property as well as any public or private place adjoining the property.
A pool owner may use an accredited certifier to inspect the swimming pool barrier and issue a compliance certificate for a compliant barrier that is valid for three years. Alternatively, if you would like Council to inspect and issue a certificate of compliance, you can submit a Swimming Pool Compliance Certificate Application form and pay the applicable fee.
Reinspection
For reinspection of a barrier under a Council Swimming Pool Compliance Certificate Application, call 02 6549 3700 to pay the reinspection fee and book the inspection.
Signage
Pools must have a warning notice with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) chart in a prominent place in the immediate vicinity of the pool (facing the pool and not within any landscaped area). The notice must be legible from 3 metres away and well maintained.
Please note, as of 1 September 2019, new standards have been implemented, and pool owners replacing existing signs must comply with current standards.
You can purchase a CPR sign from a pool supply shop or community organisations such as St John Ambulance, the Australian Red Cross or Royal Life Saving.
