Many regional communities are experiencing a shortage of essential workers in frontline services, including teachers, nurses and police. A new initiative from the State Government – The Welcome Experience – aims to encourage workers to move to regional communities and provide the support needed to settle in and become “a local”.

Muswellbrook Shire is one of eight pilot locations across regional NSW contracted to deliver The Welcome Experience. As part of the program, a Community Connector based in Muswellbrook will provide support with relocation and integration, including everything from the practicalities of finding a place to live, choosing care and education and information on clubs, teams and community groups.

NSW Government is currently seeking feedback from the community to help develop The Welcome Experience further and support regional essential services, and they invite all residents to complete a survey to help them understand local experiences and community needs.
