The Hunter Innovation Precinct (HIP) is a cluster of industry, research and education activity for the region. It is composed of the Donald Horne Building, Muswellbrook Library, Muswellbrook Visitor Information Centre, Loxton House and the Tertiary Education Centre, which includes the University of Newcastle campus.

As the centre for educational excellence, the HIP provides new-age pathways for students. It also offers collaborative research opportunities with established and emerging industries to facilitate the diversification of the Shire’s economy.
