Local Heritage Grants

Small grants are available through the Muswellbrook Shire Local Heritage Assistance Fund for maintenance works on some older buildings in the local government area.

Each year, Council offers small grants to property owners for maintenance works on heritage buildings in the local government area. This program is funded by Council and Heritage NSW.

The purpose of the fund is to assist the owners to conserve their building. Council gives priority to conservation works that go beyond routine maintenance.

The types of projects that can be funded include:

  • Replacing aluminum-framed windows with timber-framed windows where this is the original design
  • Removing paint from a building that was intended to have face brick walls
  • Rebuilding decorative render on a building where this has been chipped off
  • Repairing walls, verandahs, windows or roof plumbing on older buildings
  • Repairing or reconstructing picket fences or other boundary work to protect older houses or sites
  • Repairing and conserving older buildings, historic remnants or grave sites
  • Rebuilding an original part of a building based on good evidence
  • Addressing a long-term maintenance problem such as rising damp

Council will continue to support the repainting of the exterior of heritage listed buildings, including houses, if the heritage fund is not exhausted by projects that extend beyond routine maintenance.
