Filmmaking Essentials Workshop
Lights, camera, action! This hands-on workshop is the perfect introduction to filmmaking for students in Years 3–6.
Led by Allan Brady from Newcastle Film School, participants will explore the core elements of visual storytelling and discover what it takes to bring ideas from the page to the screen. Through fun and practical activities, students will gain an understanding of the creative and collaborative process behind making movies.

Who can attend: Students in Years 3–6
Participants will learn:
- Story structure and developing simple creative ideas
- Camera basics, including framing and movement
- Visual storytelling techniques
- Sound, performance and creating emotion on screen
- Collaboration and understanding on-set filmmaking roles
- Basic editing concepts and how scenes are assembled into a finished piece
Participants are encouraged to bring their own tablet or phone if possible.
This inclusive activity is open to all students in Years 3–6. Families requiring additional support are encouraged to contact Muswellbrook Library prior to the event to discuss their needs. Children under 13 years of age must be supervised by a parent or carer at all times.
