Muswellbrook Shire Council is pleased to advise that fluoride dosing at Muswellbrook Water Treatment Plant has resumed following upgrade works and formal approval from NSW Health at the end of March 2026. Fluoride dosing physically started on 2 April 2026; however, it takes time for the treated water to be distributed throughout the Muswellbrook water network.

This milestone marks the culmination of the Fluoride Plant Upgrade Project managed over a few years in planning and refurbishment works upgrading the Muswellbrook fluoride dosing system. The project was funded through the NSW Department of Health.

Council as an operator of local water utilities adds fluoride to drinking water to reduce tooth decay in children and adults. Strong evidence and research support drinking water fluoridation recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Dental Association (ADA), and Australian Medical Association (AMA).

For any additional information on fluoridation process and health benefits, please refer to NSW Health website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/water/Pages/fluoridation.aspx

If you have any questions or concerns regarding drinking water fluoridation at Muswellbrook Water Treatment Plant, please contact Council’s Water and Wastewater department on (02) 6549 3700 during business hours.
